Title: Harewood Meet
Post by Danny_R on Apr 27th, 2004, 1:11pm
Hi everyone,

Right, a few people have asked if there is going to be another harewood meet this year. Richard Griffin and his wife Anne organised last years fabulous day at harewood and I think those who attended would agree it was a great day! anyhow, I have been in contact with Richard Griffin again about the prospect of another meeting at harewood this year. his response was that if we generated enough interest again he would set something up. Richard all being well should be attending the Derby meet and will try and stir up some interest. So lets get some interest generated and get our pride place at harewood again.

if you didn't make the harewood meet last year, checkout the pictures and the fab writ up done by Richard Griffin

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/meet0603.htm

The show at harewood is to be held on fathers day again, so Mums or Kids! if you don’t know what to get Dad for fathers day, just slip him some money for a ticket and fuel up to Leeds ;D if we generate enough interest I’ll get some details off Richard about cost etc.. as a guide I think it was about 3 pounds a car including 2 adults and 2 children.

So come on everyone, get them posts coming in :)

Hi Andrew

yeah lol, to be honest, the amount of damage we did to those hub studs on that brand new fiesta I doubt they will be doing it again!!! lol  ;D

Right, I have posted the original message on the confidential list as well.

So far if we say Richard Griffin and his friend John attend, Me, Kevin_R, Scorpio Man (confirmed), Barry Jones (Confirmed) that’s 6 so far.

Steve Collister where are you? we need you at harewood again mate ;)

Keep the replies coming. It really was a fab day last year with all the Scorpio’s stood gleaming for all to see.

Regards

Danny R

with 6 definates, we only need a couple more and we will have more there than last year!!!

Just check that there is not a limit to the number of cars you can "invite"

Other than that, I will be fetching my gazebo, flags, banners, brochures (up to 22 now and still going!!!) and anything else I can remember to make it nice and cosy. We were a little exposed last year because of the heat of the sun and it will be like that this year as well!!!

Hi Baz,

good point about the numbers. As i've just said on the confidential list, I'm Hoping RICHARD GRIFFIN will kindly step in and take over this thread as he is the organiser. He and Anne made a superb job at organising last years meet and I've been trying to generate some early
interest for him to see if its a goer. So Rick I think its a green light
mate. ;)

Kind Regards

Hi 90% chance i will be able to attend. Visited you all last year but had to park mine in the car park, i set off too late and was stuck in a traffic jam 5 mile away for an hour (got in about 11am).
keep up the good work.

Post by Danny_R on Apr 28th, 2004, 7:16pm

Hi everyone,

Just an update, Harewood is definitely on this year. Richard is going to be handling things on the mailing list and I shall be covering the forum. Barry mentioned yesterday that we maybe limited to the amount of people that can attend harewood. I have just spoken to Richard on the phone and he confirms that we can have as many people as we want so long as we get DEFINATE persons wanting to go. The size of our pitch will be adjusted according to the amount of persons definitely going. Richard Griffin and his wife Anne will both be at the derby meet with written information for people who are interested. All he's asked is if anyone wants to go please send an email with your address on so he can post the tickets out to you. I'll post back with an exact price for the tickets one Rick has given me the details.

So far we have:
Scorpio Man, Baz, Dave Owen, Me, Kevin_R, Steve Collister, John Downing, Rick Griffin and John wanting to go

&

Maybes from Mike MacSween.

At some point I will be asking those who definitely want to go to send me an email to: dmc12_uk@yahoo.co.uk  with the Subject heading: Harewood Meet 2004   and your address.

I will post back with an approximate price for the tickets.

any questions just email me. In the mean time keep the replies coming in.

Cheers

Hi George,

Great stuff mate, will look forward to seeing you!
BTW sorry to hear about your car.

MESSAGE FOR EVERYONE:

Below I have copied a leaflet that Richard was handing out to Derby attendees. It basically outlines the day and gives details on prices etc..

*********************************************

HAREWOOD - 20th June 2004
Classic & Vintage Vehicle Rally with Yorkshire Post Motor Show
For more details about the event itself and the venue see
website http://www.harewood.org.uk

For details about last years attendance of our group see
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/meet0603.htm

We have the opportunity to join this event again this year. There are no
limits on numbers.
It will be very busy so travel early; there were queues for over an hour
after 1100 am. They do ask us to be on site before the 1000 am, public
opening time.
Cost to us will be #5 each. We will have our own roped off area and
again we can have displays. That's still a bargain as for that you have
free admission for 2 adults and 2 children not only to the show but also
to Harewood Bird Garden, grounds and especially for the children the
adventure playground. You also get a free commemorative plaque.

If anyone wants to bring a gazebo it will cost an extra #5 for each so
remember to tell me when booking.

SO if interested email anigriffin@ntlworld.com with the following
information:
Name
Postal address
Postcode
Telephone number for the day:

I will then enter you and send you your entry pass.
You can pay me on the day.

I need to get the booking to Harewood and reply from them and then
forward the passes so I cannot accept bookings after 7th June 2004.
PLEASE

Anne

*********************************************

NOTE: just to make things easier on Anne’s behalf, could all people wanting to attend harewood please send an email to her at :anigriffin@ntlworld.com with the following
information:
Name
Postal address
Postcode
Telephone number for the day:

she will then send you tickets.

Richard has asked me to cover the forum for him so I will be posting updates as and when.

in the mean time keep the replies coming. the more people attend the bigger the plot we have allocated. its a rare special occasion when we can present our Scorpio’s to the 20,000+ visitors that flock from all over the country to see the cars at harewood. If anything its another chance for us all to meet again but more importantly we fly the flag for Scorpio!!!

If anyone has any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at: dmc12_uk@yahoo.co.uk

Kind Regards

Maybe we could have our own little events....
like the timing chain challenge..each Cosworth owner has to change their timing chians for less than a grand.

Or hunt the exhaust manifold...where 2.3 drivers (or is it 2.0? I can't remember now!) have to seek out a Ford dealer who actually has an exhaust manifold without a crack.

Animal, vegetable or Granada. Guess how many people come to the stand and say "oh, I used to have a Granada as well mate!!"

Title: Re: Harewood Meet
Post by Baz on May 4th, 2004, 11:34am
Bazza,

any car is good enough. Mine is bristling with all sorts of additional bits and bobns but it has a crap paint job on the front end!! It is only a case of turning up.

Some of the cars at Derby had lovely clean engine bays, others were a little on the dirty side. It really doesn't matter. Come to Leeds and have a good day out. If you have kids as well, all the better because it is a good day out for them as well with loads of rides and things

Hi Kev,

would be great to see you mate. Baz clocked it at about 65 miles from the kestrel to Leeds using his GPS. Nice steady run (A50) (M1) all the way. As Baz said, plenty of rides and landscaped gardens to keep the 'bread-knife' and kids happy ;D

Kind Regards

Way hey Danny boy!!

You have only gone and got the big cheese coming.

OK lads (and lasses) here's the drill, make sure these Scorpios are gleaming and polish that chrome (if you have any) because the Big E is comin!!

It will be good to meet you though Eric, I wonder if Pete C will attend and what about Steve C making a transatlantic appearance......"Live from the entertainment capital of the world... Las Vegas's own....Steeeeeeve Congrave.....yeahhh"!!!but maybe not, it is a long way after all

Would really like to make it up.  Just been looking at the Harewood web site as I was wondering if it is a 'National Trust' property as we are members, but I see it is a privately owned organization, which is not a bad thing.  I do like the fact that they consider families as being a little more than 2 adults and 2 children!!
We are in Milton keynes so it will be a fair trek up the motor-way but I am sure my three kids will love the day out.
Fingers crossed that my lengthy battle with a poor timing chain repair has seen closure and that there are no more problems that prevent me from bringing the car up.

Baz,
Thanks for those comments  8)
However, owners shouldn't think for a moment that my Estate is a concourse example - far from it. It's covered with parking dints,  :'( both front and rear bumpers really need respraying and after 108K miles mostly on motorways the front is covered with gritblast...
I'm going to be travelling about 180 miles so the car is hardly going to be gleaming when I get there, either.

I look forward to meeting everyone on the day.

AFAIK Steve C will still be in USA and I think you'll find that Pete C has other commitments that weekend, but I'm sure they will be with us in spirit.  :)

Post by bertie on May 8th, 2004, 6:03pm
I travelled 180+ miles to get to the Derby meet and the car was covered in dead/squashed flies when I got there...SO WHAT....it's the cars/owners I went to see not shiny over polished trailered to shows cars.....

I've got a Rover Sd1 which I used to show in the club circles, E reg last of the 1's made 11,000 from new etc etc,  but when members started to trailer them there and polish the death out of them the attraction/pleasure went out of the window.

I say drive you're car there, enjoy the atmosphere but leave the concours attitude at home!!!! relax, chill and enjoy the show meeting/talking to fellow minded owners.

hmmmmm, maybe I should nip round to my mams and look in the garage to check on that Rover!!!! it's only been in there 5 years!!!! I told my mam that it would be there for about a couple of months max!!! hee hee

Regards
Kev

Title: Re: Harewood Meet
Post by Eric_R on May 8th, 2004, 7:10pm
That's good, guys. I only mentioned this because some owners may be thinking their cars aren't 'good enough' to turn up, whereas we want to fill a large display.

It would be great if we could do something like this - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=97376&f=30&h=0

Just needs someone with a camera on the right bridge at the right time ... lol

Title: Re: Harewood Meet
Post by Paul B on May 8th, 2004, 8:59pm
Hmm, well we did try something similar, only not from a bridge... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/meet0504.htm  ...there were 8 of us in convoy.

I (like a lot of others) wanted my car to look its best for Derby but the thing is, once you got there, it really didn't matter that much. It was great to just meet up with a bunch of good guys (and girls) and talk. Obviously there's a certain amount of looking at eachothers cars, but it really isn't a concours competition.

with the following information: Name, Postal Address and post code ---- so Anne can post the tickets out to you.

BTW I will download directions from the M1 coming into Leeds to harewood and post the link.

p.s. can someone start a harewood prayer a bit nearer the time for good weather again. seemed to work for derby ;D
