Title: A Question - What is 7 Project ??
Post by MichaelRomulus on May 11th, 2004, 7:44am
Hi Guys - saw a Scorpio for sale on ebay

The ad says

FORD SCORPIO COSWORTH 24 VALVE . Dark blue hatchback, non runner with no MOT and no Tax. Lump still in place and untouched and un-thrashed. Car body is not bad, a few knocks but has all the leather and gadgets. Engine ideal for Kit car or "7" project.   Surrey

Can anyone tell me - What is 7 Project

I have never heard the expression

Michael ( Romulus )

Yeah Paul's got it. They use the BOA Cosworth in the Caterham 7.

Caterham do not use the Ford engines in their cars they are all Rover based engines http://www.caterham.co.uk/showroom/preowned/index.htm
May be a special car or kit car may do  but official 1's do not......

Snoopy

I have seen a Caterham 7 with a BOA installed & was told about another with a couple of turbo's on it, which was mega quick. Maybe not first choice but the 24V is sometimes used. I think the Rover K series is the norm but not sure.

Same thing I think. The Caterham 7 is a modern version of the Lotus 7.

Chaps, My dad (Snoopy) has pointed me at this thread.

I'm a Caterham 7 owner  ;D, and local Area Organinser

I think you may be slightly confused as to which cars you have seen With the Cossie Turbo motors - Almost certainly a Westfield  :) - I am not aware of any Cossie powered Caterhams - at least in the Lotus & Caterham 7 club of GB  :o

The 2.9 or 2.5 or 2.6 Ford engines will not fit any varient of the Lotus or Caterham 7.

The current official engine range offered by Caterham is based solely on the MG-Xpower units, 1.4 105bhp, 1.6 120bhp, and variens of the 1.8 at 160, 200 and 230 bhp. There is a new 2.0 K with 250bhp.

Some new cars are being built with alternative engines (not supplied by Caterham) such as the 2.0 and 2.3 Duratec, that with some simple tweeks and a remappable ecu, will provide a comfortable 230 - 250 bhp.

The other engines (Ford) commonly fitted the the Caterham 7 are X flow and BDA / BDR.

Vauxhall 2.0 16V and 1.6 8v units have also been fitted as factory standard.

Some bike engines are also fitted, and the 7workshop has now developed a 2.0 v8 bike based engine for the 7SV.

ANy queries on 7's just let my Dad know and he can pass them on  ;D

On reflection, I guess the 24V would be a big old lump for a Caterham  :-/
But don't blame me - I was only guessing  ;D
And maybe the original seller was guessing at what it could be used for. I dunno.

Hi Guys. I am really into the westfield(Sei) and the Caterham 7. I have seen the cossoe turbo in 4x4 format in both the seven and the westie. Also  a few owners have  put the TVR 4.0L in their motors. I have seen these cars displayed at vairious shows up and down thr country.

P.s at the time (1996 ish) the westie Seight was the fastest production car to go from 30-70 in 5th.  3.9 secs!

Hi Guys
i am building a '7' baised in a 2.0l Pinto lump which involves buying a Haynes (you know the company who couldnt be bothered to strip a Scorpio) book called 'Build your own sports car for £250' (which is actually impossible in my opinion) a pile of steel, a donor car and a great deal of spare time, the result is a Lotus 7 replica called a 'Locost 7', so far mine has probably cost me about £1500 and is about 70% complete, they are supposed to be fantastic to drive and stick to the road like poo to a blanket. if any one is interested i'll bring my build diary to Harewood

cheers

Dean   ;)

Hi Guys
The 7 I saw was going up & down what use to be called the Avon Park drag track. It was recording quarter mile times for a mag so must be some pictures out there somewhere. He did not have much time for me but I did have a quick look & it was a 24V BOA with the carb conversion on it. It was about 3 years ago.
