Post by Eric_R on Sep 28th, 2004, 10:33pm
Guys,
Another new page - Neil W gives us excellent instructions for installing a very snazzy front and rear parking proximity system. Very neat.
And he uses din plugs to allow the bumpers to be removed  8)

very cool. Check it out on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/8proximity.htm

Hello Ultima_Bloke,

The whole job took 2 of us two half days to fit (we were interrupted by heavy rain). The longest part was removing and refitting the front bumper and soldering the DIN plug connectors - these were fiddly. I also had to extend 2 of the front sensor wires as they were about a foot short (typical), but I got some 75 ohm coax cable from Maplins for that bit.

The original deal was available from Ebay only and a recent check suggested the product isn't on the site at present. But if you email the address in the article, they will be able to advise you if any are for sale.

The price I quoted was for the complete kit; all the cables, sensors, display, controller, and cutting tool. The cables were all lettered so as to ensure you fit them in the correct sequence across both front and back bumpers and were fitted with connectors. An instruction book came with the kit, but the English was a bit comical  ;D.

The only extra costs were for insulating tape, some small cable ties, a couple of new plastic screws for the bumper side edges (wheel arch), the DIN plugs and a metre length of coax cable. Probably no more than £70 in total.

The job was not difficult, although I'm quite a handy DIY person  ;), but just needed time to work out cable routes etc. The article should help you cut down on the time I needed to work out where to put everything.

Good luck if you go for it.

Neil W.
