Post by Big Bri on Oct 17th, 2004, 7:42pm Remember this; the French have STILL not got the hang of roundabouts (except the Eurodisney ones). :o Hit France with an MT tank & fill up b4 you come back to save half the price of your crossing! ;) Most of all ENJOY you lucky people. 8) Brian |

Title: Re: Going to France on Thursday...any tips? Post by Paul B on Oct 17th, 2004, 9:28pm Simon says... don't eat yellow snow - and he's quite right. Good idea that! But Big Bri is also right about the motion lotion of course. Amused me when we got back last week to see the big Beemer in front of us pull over into the petrol station (still in Dover docks) to fill up. Why would you do that? ??? My tip? Well, you say you're taking the trouble & strife and the Scorp. Why not take the dustbin lids too? They might enjoy it ;) Oh, and they drive on the wrong side of the road over there! :o ;) |

Title: Re: Going to France on Thursday...any tips? Post by Baz on Oct 18th, 2004, 12:57am Thank you gents.....everyone a gem. I have of course driven over there a few times. When I had my Rover 75 Diesel, I drove down south of Perpignan, the following year to Dresden and the year after that to Majorca. (Thats right the little island 4 hours off the coast of Barcelona!!) Should have seen the faces of the other English at the hotel when me and my mate turned up in an English car (The wife, his wife and the kids had flown, my mate won't fly so we decided it was a good idea to drive..yeah right it was!!) I have just never took a car abroad that actually needs filling up more than once so it will be an experience, my Rover would do nearly 700 miles to a tank full! Baz |

Title: Re: Going to France on Thursday...any tips? Post by ferretmobile on Oct 19th, 2004, 6:05pm Lots cheaper m8 :) Its also cheap to go by speed ferries who go dover to boulogne. Only 50quid return. I am sailing on sunday to drive down to Le Mans. I have got a place down there and fuel booze & food are dirt cheap. :D ferretmobile |

Title: Re: Going to France on Thursday...any tips? Post by Ranjo on Oct 20th, 2004, 1:44pm hI baz I did the exact same trip in august. take plenty of change for the toll roads make sure you have a good map take loads of money/credit cards as it is quite expensive esp at euro disney bring back mobil 1 oil as it is cheaper as well as booze and fags dont forget toswitch your headlights if you go into paris and need to park some of the public car parks dont accept money so you will have to purchase a car parking ticket which i believe is bought at post offices eiffel tower is worth a visit but only if you have nothing better to do! speed limit is variable on motorways depending on whether it is dry or raining Although all the staff at eurodisney are pleasant, the french in general esp outside of eurodisney are somewhat snobby! one junction before eurodisny there is a designer shopping outlet that may interest you ranjo |

Title: Re: Going to France on Thursday...any tips? Post by Baz on Oct 20th, 2004, 9:47pm Ranjo, Thanks for the info. I have done France on many occasions and we are planning to move out there permanantly in the next 3 years or so. I always pay with a credit card on the motorways. I have sat nav and have just downloaded the latest map disk (But I have a map just in case!) I like the oil tip, I will do that. I gave up smoking over a year ago so not many fags, but maybe plenty of vino. Thanks for the headlight reminder, I will sort that on the train. Don't intend to go into Paris. Last time we were there taking pictures of the millenium countdown clock, some Princess had a car crash round the corner and we couldn't get out of Paris for hours because they closed all the roads! I remembered the bit about the rainy motorways. I speak reasonable French with a "marseille" accent so I know all about snobby!!! As for the last one, sssh, the wife might hear!! Thanks again for taking the trouble to respond Baz |
