Finally, after an hour and half at the DVLA in Manchester, my new registration is sorted. Thanks to my beloved wife, I now am the proud owner of S2.9 COS

looks great, when I bought my car I only saw when I got home the reg was N176 RJR my initals are RJF so close and for free.

New 05 plates are available from tomorrow. I was hoping to reserve AT 05 SER ;)
But its not being issued... yet :-/

Your plate looks cool though Baz :)

I looked at this for a good while Paul but I still don't get it... maybe I am being a thick geordie ;D

Paul, what does AT 05 SER signify? I'm not trying to be smart or anything but it's just that we don't have personalised plates in Ireland. Although we probably have the best and simplest to understand system in Europe for finding out where and when a car was registered.
For example, the reg of my car is 98 D 33184.
This means that the car was registered in 1998 (98), it's registered in County Dublin (D) and it was the 33,184th car to be registered in Dublin that year - About 80,000 new cars are registered, on average, in Dublin every year. The 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland all have their own abbreviations: Eg: Kerry (KY), Cork (C), Sligo (SO) and so on. It means you can tell straight away where in the country a car is from, what year it's from and going by the number following the letter(s), you can usually have a fair idea as to what time of the year it was registered. This system has been in place since 1987 and it works very well. One last thing I want to ask again: Paul, what does AT 05 SER signify?

Ah I see now. I guess with the Irish reg plates, I'm not "trained" to recognise the personalised ones. Makes sense now. I didn't realise you were a tosser ;)

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner. I had to go to bed. But Baz got the jist of it luckily :)

Although I have been referred to as a tosser at times, I'm not actualy sure it would be a good idea to have it displayed on my motor :-/
But I shall still be phoning up today, to reserve another 05 plate I have my eye on. This will be going on the new van I'm getting in the new year :)

I always thought that the Irish system was a sensible idea. As you say, it works well. Doesn't give much scope for spelling things though does it?

Paul, only trouble with that plate is you'd have to find a previously unregistered Scorpio to put it on! You can't put plate with a newer year on an older car. :(

Yeah, its a shame you can't do that really. :(
Still, as I said, this will be for my new van rather than the Scorp.

DVLA phone lines opened at 8 this morning and they were red hot. I tried straight away but finally got through at about 9:30!! Got the one I was after, so I suppose it was worth the wait.

very nice mate.

The donor 24v that me and the old man bought had COS 24V on it!!! Unfortunately it didn't come with the car :'( I imagine it would of fetched a good price!

Hey Baz,

yeah things are going good so far mate. Missing the Scorpio like hell. Should be getting the crown vic pretty soon. Fortunately for me, the insurance companies give higher discounts for people who buy bigger cars over here because they are much less of a death threat in a collision! or so they say. works for me anyway :D
