The site is now located at a slightly different URL so please let us know of any problems you may have.

Thanks

Or the site has moved to France and we are an hour behind.

Actually gave myself a bit of a "I should be somewhere else  ???" moment when I looked at the clock.

Also having to log in each visit, but thats really not a problem.

If you resave your bookmark then you will be remembered when you come back!     otherwise you will have to log on eachtime

Also the DNS servers seem to be updating better on Wanadoo now  will wait and see!

But thanks......

Bonjour, ;D

Is being in another time zone the result of Admin's new car?  ;)

Maybe a new reactor would sort it out......... ::)

Well the time on my screen is correct, albeit slow by 4 minutes, just have to go to your profile and set time difference to -1hr this will give you the correct time on your screen.

HTH

Well as a long term Freeserve user .. I am sorry to announce that it is NO better but thanks for trying Steve.. Still took four atempts and different addresss to get it to work.. but what the heck its only time....Will be changing to a different ISP very very soon......

Title: Re: Forum changes
Post by admin on Dec 4th, 2004, 10:59am
There is a 'hack' that can be used by Freeserve/Wanadoo users who can't get access to the site. That's until they change to a decent ISP of course LOL

Open up a file called 'Hosts' which is located in WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/DRIVERS/ETC and edit it using Notepad.

The last line should read
127.0.0.1       localhost

and UNDER this line add in

69.46.25.240     www.fordscorpio.co.uk

Then save the file and you may have to reboot the PC.

This bypasses the DNS server at Wanadoo for the fordscorpio site, forcing your PC to find the correct IP address.

Let us know if that helps

Steve

Hi All
I am one of the troubled Wanadoo users.
Sorry to report the changes you have made seem to have made it even more of a pain to get this site.
The hack does work.
Thanks for trying.

Does that mean that you have implemented the hack and that you can now get access to the web site and the forum?

Thanks

Steve

I haven't been able to get the forum since thursday, just got it back this morning by going to the main site and clicking the forum link. My saved bookmark just constantly said the site was in maintenance mode and I couldn't log in. It was (and still is if I use the bookmark) showing as Admin only log in.

My bookmark url is...
http://forum.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl

I never noticed a problem, because I never bookmarked the forum only the site and clicked on the forum link to get access. ;D but I have done now.

I did notive that I had to login in again but only once.

My bookmark wouldn't work and neither would the link from the main site.
Eventually I asked on the mailing list and someone (sorry, I forgot the name) gave me the link they were using.
Bookmarked this new one now & all is fine. Mind you, its quiet on here so I guess others are still not here.

One small problem... some old posts are showing up as new. And the ones on the Problems section I can't even "Mark As Read"
Scratch that - its sorted itself out now  ???

Just to make it clear, yes the hack posted by admin earlier in this post does work, although perhaps you should not call it a hack as the same kind of thing is used by people running dodgy software that needs to access the internet to check it is registered before it runs.

Vulcan
I just tried your link & it says The page can not be displayed.
I am using Wanadoo, if you change it to: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl it should work, well it does for me.

Well I have had terrible problems. I thought the site had closed down because I was unable to get on here for so long. I had just about given up all hope. Ok I have tried the fix, thanks to snoopy emailing me the details. but it still seems to intermittent.

I too will be changing from wanado. Tesco seems to be the cheapest broadband at the moment.  Think I will start a new discussion on this.

Bookmarks will no longer work - we changed the URL from forum.fordscorpio.co.uk to www.fordscorpio.co.uk to help our poor Wanadoo customers :)

For those with a decent ISP (LOL) then forum.fordscorpio.co.uk still holds a backup copy of the forum but is permanently in maintenance mode.

I have got the full site today for the first time for months.I am one of the Wanadoo users referred to. Steve C e-mailed me the 'fix'refered to but just before trying to do it (I'm an OAP and these things are rocket science) I used the normal www.fordscorpio and lo and behold it worked.!!! Fingers crossed!!!  Simmo. Thanks Admin.
