Today's Auto Express (Issue 850) has a list of the top 20 Disasterous Designs - rated by ugliness. Our Scorpios are at No. 5!!!!!!!!

Some info is that 76,343 Pre Facelifts and 29,195 Facelifts made.

No 1 was the Alfa Romeo 33 (I almost bought one of those as well!!!)

I'm pretty sure that there wern't that many facelifts built. If they only made 76000 between October 94 and November 97 do you really think they managed to build nearly 30,000 between Nov 97 and production ceasing in June 98!! I think the figure of 6000 facelift models is about right!

I've looked at the article again - I think they're referring to the Granada Scorpio as Pre-Facelift and the post 94 (95) Scorpio as the Facelift (not the 98 model as we know it). Does this look better?

29,145 facelifts really doesn't look right.

I guess its easier for them to bang away at how people felt in 95 and not to acknowledge how other brands have followed. Can just imagine it "need 20 words for that space before I can go and get lunch"

If you have a look at Baz's Scorp on the wheels link under problems it really looks the business.

The point is that the Scorpio is Auto Express' fifth ugliest car.

And number 47ish in Top Gear's Crap Cars book!

But it's byoooootifal. All these critics are short-sighted, says I.

I find that when people at work ect see my car, i think that most of them ( specially the women ) would probably like to own one / after i have shown them all the goodies that my Ultima has got in it. one women asked me if i would sell it to her for her husband i told her i would rather shove wasps up me bum! LOL. :o. I haven't had anyone say that they think the scorpio is ugly! It's funny though everyone will insist on calling it a granada Scorpio, even when you have just told them it isn't.

Haven't read the article (& can't see owt about it on their web site), but I hope the Fiat Multipla and new Nissan Micra are above the Scorp in the list...

Now there's a pair of minger motors!

I totally agree, Nick. They're bizzare (http://www.euroncap.com/downloads/media/phase12/nissan_micra_2003.jpg)shapes.

Maybe because the Granada Scorpio made such an impact in 1985 people just think of it with the Scorpio.

It's still extreeeeeeeeemely annoying!

cant believe people class them as ugly at all. to be honest ive never paid much attention to the scorpio till i bought one this week,and i honestly believe there a stylish, elegant motor. like the old saying goes though "people are always threatened by something they don,t understand" i think that was a saying anyway lol ;D

To be honest, I hated them when they first came out. Had a Mk 3 Scorp at the time and couldn't see why such radical changes were necessary.

Had mine about 2 years now, got over the looks thing by ditching old prejudices and actually think it stacks up well against "modern" <RANT>bits of plastic with cruddy little engines</RANT> er, cars (for want of a better word).

Think "new" beetle (hated the old one, but it was what it was), the "new" mini (hated the old one but...). The Ford Ka - born under the ugly tree and hit with the ugly stick all it's sad little life... Sorry, got stuck behind one the other day - 45 in a 60 zone, 45 in a 30 zone (grrrrr.....) so it raced away from me then and wall to wall opposing traffic where I could have breezed past it. Why is it always that way ??? ??? ??? I hate following roller skates!

Anyway, saw the same one about 3 times in 2 days last summer... The all time ugliest car ever is the Rolls-Royce Phantom 2004 (ve hav vays, or whatever). If I'm driving one of those in ten years time then feel free to shoot me.
