Title: Experimental Page Post by Eric_R on Aug 8th, 2005, 1:15am Folks, I've been trying for ages to present an easy-to-use reference page, bringing together all diagnosis subjects so that a newby can easily find the exact page he needs in all the hundreds on the site - similar to the Buying a Scorpio reference page. I tried various formats but they were too lengthy and cumbersome. Then out of the blue Highlander suggested the same thing, but in a Data flow type of sheet - a trouble-tree approach that was just the ticket. Thanks Stuart. :D Have a look at the experimental page http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm and see what you think. It probably doesn't flow quite as Stuart suggested, but I think it fits the bill. It's not on any Menu yet so you need to use this link. Do you find this useful? Is it worth continuing? Let me know here. :-/ |

Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by SaveTheNight on Aug 8th, 2005, 7:16am Hi Eric ... it's going to be loooooooooong ! ... and it's going to give you loads more work as we all chip in with " ah ..and don't forget so and so .. " .. ..I think an animated caricature of yourself would be great ..and when we click it ..it rings you direct !! ..premium line of course but only 20p per minute which goes into the site fund !! ... yeahhhhh !!! ... looks good anyway ..and you're a devil for punishment mate !! ..hope all is well with you ..... regards ... Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by Simmo on Aug 8th, 2005, 1:58pm Eric, I agree with STN but the idea is certainly sound particularly when you are trying to recall a previous post where you know the subject has been aired and possibly resolved before. Would it help if members, particularly the more senior and experienced ones, were to suggest to you the topics they feel crop up most frequently. I don't claim to fall into that league but even I,for example, can recall frequent posts about the remote fob and its quirks!!. Similarly the MAF and wiring diagrams. This combined experience may at least help you prioritise the subjects because I'm sure you'll do it anyway!!. ;) |

Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by Jukka on Aug 8th, 2005, 4:51pm The amount of information in these pages is so big that without some help to find it you would never find it when you need it. This experimental page looks good. I find it useful and worth continuing. I really hope you will find time and motivation to continue this work. Regards Jukka PS. Thank you for accepting my registration |

Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by mazzy_j on Aug 12th, 2005, 3:00pm As a new'ish'bie newbie I also agree, very useful idea, just been looking around and found the mondeo owners forum has a simple idea, having a box with the main section heading (such as mechanical problems) and then having links to related posts which come under that heading in the box with it (such as 4cylinder, v6, diesel etc) making searching easier than trying to pick out relevent posts in a mix with all the others. Just a thought, Matt http://www.fordmondeo.org/forum/index.php? |

Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by Geoff_W on Aug 12th, 2005, 5:11pm Matt, Did you mean something like this which is for articles on specific themes? http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/index2.htm ;) Or an index of postings? |

Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by Neil W on Aug 12th, 2005, 7:11pm Eric, What a brilliant idea. I agree with others that, whilst there is a huge amount of info on the site it does take some finding. If you have the time to continue with this project then I am sure many of us lesser mechanics will forever be in your debt. Neil W. |

Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by stevelufc on Aug 15th, 2005, 2:34pm looks very useful, and time saving. i noticed in the ac section that it doesn't mention intermitant fan which i belive is a hbc fault, but i imagine wev'e all got something to chip in as we go along. great idea though ;D ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: Experimental Page Post by Geoff_W on Aug 15th, 2005, 6:07pm Eric, This is looking great, I have already followed links to three problems that I need to resolve... Actually a well structured flow for us sequential types. This is a really good way to get to the huge amount of information on the site and gives us a context 8) |
