Title: New Member with Focus RS ECU questions..
Post by Kev.H on Mar 9th, 2006, 12:54pm
Hi Im a newbie got a couple of questions  ;D

I know this is a Granada site but you seem very clued up so I thought you all might be able to help  ;)

So here goes.....

The Focus RS comes with 2 base maps one called AE and one called AF... AE came first but cars kept bogging in first and stalling when cold so they released AF this cured these problems but then in turn caused a flat spot missfire at 5k  :-/ Some cars run fine some do not.. at service they allways update ECU's thus causing more problems... The general feeling is cars run better on AE but Ford say AF is newer thus better and thus dealers agree so will not revert the ECU back to map AE...

So Im on the hunt for a couple of Ford WDS CD's a new one with the AF map and CD26 which has the AE map... but then im obviously stuck as I dont have a WDS machine  }{

So what I thought was... Instead of my ECU being chipped I have a bluefin which re programs parts of the base map and comes with a lead thats serial one end and Ford management system plug on the other could I use this or the other lead I have seen on this site to hook in via a laptop to my ECU ?

This in turn creates a problem I dont have the Ford WDS software so could OBD help ? or does anyone have a copy of WDS software  ???

So I guess my questions are...

1: Can you use this OBD software on an ford EEC5 ecu  :-/ which is whats fitted to a FRS...

2: Can this OBD software upload base engine maps say from a WDS CD  ???

Fanks

no, this is a scorpio site! BIG difference (to us, anyway) ;D

sounds like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place...

can't you just tell the dealer that's what you want as you are the customer?

imo, you'd be better off going to one of the companies in Fast Ford mag. even if you changed back to AE version, what to say you car will run fine throughout the rev range. :-/ better to get it set up on the rollers. :)

as for obd-2 software. it's a read only thing.
re WDS. think you'll find it hard to find anyone outside of ford with it.

maybe some of our members with modding knowledge will know more.

You are better off contacting one of the specialist engine tuning form like Emerald who make fully mappable ECU's IMHO the OBD software is as Scorpio man states a " read only " package . I don't think this site will help you in your quest a great deal.

As for Ford WDS it is a Ford dealership thing and AFAIK the cost was in the region of £6k at the last time of enquiry.

kev. have you asked this question on the rs owners club forum. somebody else running a focus must have come across this problem and might have the answer or know how to get the software you need. ps mate, calling a scorpio a granada is like calling a focus rs a st  ;D ;D
