spoke to a guy today who drives a very nice p reg 2.3 ultima saloon auto,he paid £17.5k for it 8.5 years ago and hes looking to get a mondeo ghia x so of to fmd to buy one[55 plate] £14k.....so whats the trade in offer from fmd........£1k....£1.4k tops.......scorpio,s only done 33k full s/h, so waiting for phone call.

Absolutely dread to think. I will say £1600 if he pushes it :D

That would probably fly on eBay with that milage though if he had the inclination!

i would recommend ebay as well....
ok,it does have it's "problems",but in my experience selling mine,if someone wants that car,thay wil ltravel to but it,and with that mileage,it WILL generate interest..
i wish him luck... ;)

Yeah. Agree with everything Craig says.

I travelled over 500 miles to collect my Scorpio Ultima 2.9 12v. Worth every penny. A good, well looked after car in every respect. A few stone chippings, but as soon as i lifted the bonnet, it told me that the car had been properly looked after. Everything clean, (not steamed), all levels at the proper marks, clean oil, clean ATF fluid, screen wash bottle full, hoses clean and tidy, wiring not disturbed, belts tensioned correctly etc etc.

Condition and general appearance are the pointers for any car I buy. Mileage is a secondary consideration. If a car has been regularly serviced, and looks the part, then it probably is.

Listen to the engine. How does it sound. Take a long screwdriver with you, and being careful not to get near moving belts or chains hold it against various points on the engine with the other end against your ear. You can HEAR what's going on inside that engine. If it doesn't sound right.....then walk away. there's plenty of other cars.

I always look at OIL first. If it's dirty and smelly, then I'm not interested in the car. I used to work in a plant where we built engines (Perkins Diesel), and I can assure all of you. Regular Oil changes are the ultimate protection for ANY engine. There is NOTHING that wears an engine out faster than an engine with dirty contaminated oil splashing round inside it.

I've stripped and rebuilt many an engine that has been damaged purely because the owner had been too IDLE to check the oil on a regular basis, and YES, you are talking BIG money to do it. We always used to know when oil had gone below the dipstick level. Wear had started, and was not reversible from that pojnt. Forget all these 'additives' that are supposed to be miracle cures for engines, they cost money, and they don't work. The ONLY thing that will restore a broken engine is a re-build.

I've been around cars and engines for a long time now (I'm nearly 60), and I have always maintained my own cars. A lot of my experience is built on good sound engineering know how. Look after your car, and it will look after you. Let the speed merchants get on with it, they will pay more for their motoring in every way. The Scorpio is a BEAUTIFUL car to own and drive, and I'm proud to own one.

The other thing I always listen to is the sellers description of the car.
"It goes like **** off a shovel"......It's been caned!
"It will beat anything off the lights".........Clutch will be just about wrecked.
""One careful lady owner"............The one you followed at 90mph with smoke pouring from it the other day!
"First to see will buy".............Yeah, but what's it like UNDER the bonnet.

You get my idea.

This car sounds like a dream, and yes, it WILL do well on Ebay, and hopefully get us a new Member.

Well Parkers put a 96' R reg 2.5TDi Ghia as being worth £1000 part ex. There's a couple of petrol ones in my local paper for about a grand each (both estates though).

I've put mine on ebay starting at £500 - possibly too cheap but I'm hoping it will fetch a bit more than that.
