Title: Save Top Gear
Post by Geoff_W on Sep 26th, 2006, 2:02pm
With the Beeb running scared of government and public safety monkeys they need a bit of encouragement or at least some back bone.

You may already be aware of the online petition to save Top Gear at http://www.petitiononline.com/tg100/petition.html

I have just signed in at 29441  >:(

Have a look and see what you think.

Sorry, but I can't find it in my heart to forgive Clarkson and Co. for the  mean and nasty comments  they made, and continue to make,   about the car we all  love.

I doubt that Clarkson will  be unemployed for long.

The show was getting rather childish  anyway, how old are they  ?,   still  racing  each  other  like   they were   still    at  school.

Feel the same. ;)

I can't help thinking that this show has inspired so many car drivers into thinking that pushing your car to the limit on a public road is a good thing to do. {}

'Top Gear' never seems to promote any kind of road safety issues or how to drive responsibly. :(

All us Scorp drivers who have had years of experience know better....don't we?. ;D

But what about 17 year olds who've just passed their test.
They don't know what it's really like on the roads....they think it's like Top Gear....& the Fast & Furious.
The faster you can drive then the better driver you are ???....what about considering other road users? ::)

Where are we going?.....Apparently they don't teach the green cross code or do cycle proficiency training in schools anymore. :o

If you don't realise how dangerous roads are from an early age then you are not going to appreciate the dangers when you are old enough to drive :o

So there :P

P.S.......get well soon hamster & don't do it again. {}

Number: 34569 together with mini rant!

We may not have agreed with his comments but the one thing about clarkson is that he isn't scared to say what he thinks and that is what makes him so entertaining and unusual. Most broadcasters just suck up to people and try too hard to be PC. I love clarksons columns and the fact he won't bow down to those ruining the uk.

I'm just pig sick of the nanny state and the way namby pamby liberals are trying to remove our rights to enjoy life. Soon you'll be expected to write a risk assessment for getting up in the morning. Although a criminal can just carry on so as not to breach their human rights, while those attempting to stop them get locked up.

Just my opinion, I'll calm down and get off the soap box now!

Regards
Paul

top gear (when i watched it) was fun and entertaining, a light hearted look to be taken with a pinch of salt; if you had a couple of hundred grand to spend on a supercar would you take topgears advice? i very much doubt it, the show is what its meant to be, a bit of fun, entertaining, its not about road road safety, doesnt advertise itself as being so and theres no reason why it should be.
if you're worried about the influence on youngsters you'd be far better off targeting cr*p gloss mags like max power.

also, if the instant demise of the scorp was in part due to clarksons comments, shouldnt we be thanking him? we all own cars that we 'know' are superb, if clarkson had praised them and sales taken off, would we be able to afford them now?

[] I'd shake the hand of anyone slagging the Scorps off :) How else could I have a 208 Bhp V6, a spec that would put some German execs to shame full main dealer service history with 78,000 on clock for £1380?  }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{

The point being  that  had   the  1994  Scorp  been a huge sucess then  Ford  would  still   be  making huge numbers of the   2006  Mk 4  Scorpio  giving us   many years  of  used Scorpios  to come.

but thats it floppy, they'd hold value and we'd all want the latest out of price range model.....if we had any interest in them; i think for a lot of us it is the rarity of a marque that was ignored by just about everyone, because of their rarity we cherish them. if they were still in production now would there be this website with people holding meets and swapping parts etc? i doubt it.
when i give mates lifts they get in, look around and say what car is this? i reply a ford, they say they know that from the badge but what model? i say scorpio, a lot of em go quiet and then say dont know that model, is it american?

Agreed taliban.

To replicate the  level of trim we get on the Scorp on a modern car we would need to invest a fair amount of dosh. []

Every modern Eurobox  car I get into I sniff  in disgust  and  feel superior  when  I  gaze at the poor level  of spec  that  passes  for  top of the range.

That's the reason I  declined buying a  2001  Yank LHD  Ford Crown Victoria .

                           No Tacho
                           No Heated Seats
                           No Heated Front Screen
                           No CD Player !!!!!!
                           No  Climate Control
                           No On Board Computer
                           No Remote Locking
                           No Passenger Airbag
                           No Leather Steering Wheel /Seats
                           No Bonnet Soundproofing

General poor construction and plasticky cheapness compared to the Germanic build quality. @

thats unusual for a yank, the couple i owned years ago were fully loaded, in fact the term fully loaded is american.

i've got a couple of mates who own base model beemers, sturdy cars but so basic for the money.....

I would not be sad to see it go.

5th Gear is a far superiro car show now.

TG has been getting silly, the very obviously STAGED caravan park incidents were painful to watch if you had any sense...

Sorry guys you seem to be missing the point here.

Yes Clarkson is a jerk and is paid to be, yes the cool wall is a bit of a joke but actually there are also some decent features and comparisons and some corny escapist stuff that can be fun to watch.

If it is still on the air those that don't wish to watch can pig out on wall to wall big brother or some other  nonsense.  But if you actually enjoy Top Gear the reruns will run out at some point and there will not be any new programming unless the beeb sees fit to green light the next series.

For those folk that want to see Top Gear as history why not set up a counter petition / thread?

Realistically this is the best chance you will ever have to get it ditched.

For the others keep plugging away and stick with the topic.

;)

ps You may have guessed that I am a bit of a fan. (still don't agree with anihilating scorps though)
