Title: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by Matt on Feb 19th, 2007, 12:19pm
alas we loose another scorpio, a facelift cossie at that, happened on the way to work this morning, back end stepped out entering an island and bounced off the outside kerb, which then sent it accross the dual carriage way, over the center kerb style reservation and was stopped by a sign post. the front of the car sticking out into the fast lane of the oncoming traffic, luckily never hit any one esle but the scorpio took a bloody beating, cant see it on these pics but the rear wheel flaps about so summat there has broken :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

not hurt though and i plan to bring her back to life, just need a sound saloon body shell, nude, nude, wink, wink

http://i18.tinypic.com/30ieyqr.jpg
this shows how much the body has caved in, i can poke my finger through a hole in the C shaped bit and touch the cd changer lol

http://i5.tinypic.com/3yeeoht.jpg
what i was greeted with inside the boot, ive removed the spare wheel to check the floor plan, hence why u can see it in the pic

http://i19.tinypic.com/2j2jdko.jpg

http://i5.tinypic.com/2ijlu1t.jpg

last to are shots from where i got it to after the impact

Ouch, at least you were ok Matt, what does it need to fix it? I have a scrap saloon you can have bits off if you need them although I'm in Edinburgh.

I'm sure I could cut you out a rear quarter though and a trailing arm/subframe if you need it

it would be easist to 'reshell' the car, so a stripped car would be great, would need the front wings still as there spot welded on, then just transfer all the cossie stuff onto the donor body, dont have much cash though and dont have transport  :'(

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by tintin on Feb 19th, 2007, 2:41pm
of course, you could always get a cossie with a blown engine, and just swap the brmm brmm bit..... ;D

i hear there is a nice one just outside Telford.......

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Dave on Feb 19th, 2007, 3:22pm
Oh no, not another one......

Glad you are ok Matt, looks like a serious crack to the side there  :o

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 19th, 2007, 3:32pm
yeah it was, hit a sign post for parcel force at arround 30ish side ways, sent the sign flying, coppers had to close off a lane to retrieve the sign that fell off the post

a couple more pics

http://i12.tinypic.com/3y3snm9.jpg

not looking so smooth now and thats a strange panel gap

http://i19.tinypic.com/4dbmfeo.jpg
the b****red wheel, it doesnt look as bad in this pic as it does on the car

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by scorpio_man on Feb 19th, 2007, 3:40pm
back luck there matt. :(

i'll send you the repair manual, might give you a better idea of things when you can check the spec.

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 19th, 2007, 3:47pm
cheers scorpio man

dont think i'll be taking it to a garage, i dont even want to start imagining the repair bill.

im quite handy arround cars and im favoring buying any saloon with a good body. doesnt matter if it dont run or the doors have fell off, so long as the chasie, rear quarters, sills and front wings and panels are all in the correct shape, i'll just swap bits and make me a new cossie ;D.i assume id have to have the car sva checked then and have the chassie number changed on the v5. then save up for a full respray

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by scorpio_man on Feb 19th, 2007, 3:55pm
hi matt

yes, i think it would be easier to swap bits over. rear repairs are always tricky. :(

the file is on it's way, but it's a biggy (8mb)! :o

ive just had a thought, an body know if the engine and gearbox mounts on all cars are the same? ive spotted a cheap 2.0l 16v on ebay but would the cossie lump 'go in' it or do i have to look for cossie chassies??

Title: Re: Time To Cry

hi matt

i'm sure someone posted that they were different. wouldn't be hard to move them, i would've thought.

Oh No.... not another one... and its silver too... Sorry to see the damage Matt. I have a complete 2.3 car in State Blue and its a facelift. Just needs a front and rear bumper. If you want it, let me know. I am in Warrington

The body is pretty sound and no bad dents... although it may need a bit of a polish!

Matt,

not sure although I would imagine that the chasis is the same and if the mounts are different the fixing positions will still be there. I will have a look on the ford thingy later.

Danny.... no you can't have it.... go and get yourself a Caddy!!

(Hope you are well, drop me a line sometime soon and we can have a natter.... not heard from ur dad either lately. Give him a shove!!)

Bloody hell Matt, I bet you're gutted mate :'(

I know from the Capri how much of a pain rear enders can be in the bodyshop.

At least you can do the mechanics, getting another shell sounds like a good idea - good luck with it ;)

Glad your okay mate.

it would be a shame to let a good car go to waste

i had my eye on this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200080326080&rd=1&rd=1

lost it in the diying seconds. :(

time to look for a new doner car

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:12pm
hi all

found another car http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290085856599

speaking to the girl selling it, she let me have it for £300. im more then likely gonna pick this one up :D

asked her a few questions on the body (thats all i need it for lol) so anybody needin 12v stuff let me know and i'll whip it off. i'll be trying to make the £300 back off it in bits so if theres enough intrest parts will be cheap!

btw would i be right in saying all the bodies are the same e.g. pre face lift and face lift and spec,

it's just the bumpers, lights, engines and interiour specs that class the cars?

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by scorpio_man on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:17pm
hi matt

the only thing i can thing of is the wiring. the 12v uses the older ecu and 'box.

are you planing on swaping everything over, including the wiring?

did you see this (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=cars;action=display;num=1168723718)?

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:23pm
yeah i will swap everything. i'll strip both to the bare shells then put the cossie back together usin the 12v body. it will even get a fresh coat of silver when ive saved up hehe

the woman and her husband have agreed to sell it me for £250 !! i didnt even haggle lol, so would be rude not to take it.

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Baz on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:31pm

Don't forget as well that there is a difference on the rear parcel shelf with the facelift and pre-facelift cars, as the pre facelifts don't have the aperture to hold the third inertia seatbelt under the shelf

Baz

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:35pm
could this be modded into the preface lift shelf? could i remove it from the cossie and weld it on?

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Baz on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:38pm
Possibly but you would need to get the integrity checked as part of the examination you need to put it back on the road I imagine.... Might have to do without because seatbelts are not really the sort of thing to mess with I imagine

Baz

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Baz on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:40pm
Tell you what though.... If your nearside rear door on your facelift is rust and damage free, I would be interested in a deal. I must have something you want (Including money or a whole facelift car in state blue!!) especially if you are reshelling the whole car and then respraying... ;D

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:41pm
i'll have a look, i believe you have to have any car you build your self sva tested, so as i'd be building a new cossie i assume it qualifies

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 22nd, 2007, 9:46pm
sry baz, the door took a whack aswell (nearside is passanger side, right? ::)) it's not very bad but would need looking at, i can post a pic tomorrow if you like?

Oh dear silver one bites the moondust.  Good luck patching her up, although I concur that, should the engine and trnasmission still be fine, it may be less hassle to acquire non-runner and transplant.

Sorry to see the damage Matt, but it sounds like you're determined to get back with it asap.

I have a question though... what happened to the traction control? Did you switch it off for a bit o'fun?  ::)

Matt,

took my car to the place where I get the damage repaired on my company vans.... and with the lads I employ and have emplyed... he was always quite busy!!

He is fixing mine up for me  on Wednesday/Thursday for very few pennies!

Back to the shiny corner very soon! Good luck with the rebuild as well. Are you intending a respray back to silver?

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on Feb 25th, 2007, 5:11pm
dunno what colour to paint it tbh, i like the silver but it doesnt shine up very well. i quite like the blue and dark green cars, what ever colour it's gonna be, it will have yo wait till the cars up and running

i'll post some pic's soon :D

the inside view

http://i9.tinypic.com/2s12ans.jpg
i think this shows the damage to the wheel best

right the 12v'er

here she is, needs a bit of body work but she's in great nick otherwise, the alloys are almost perfect with pretty much new tyres on them so any offes on them welcome,

http://sixteensixtyfour.co.uk/Gallery/albums/userpics/Photo-0048.jpg

http://sixteensixtyfour.co.uk/Gallery/albums/userpics/Photo-0049.jpg

there is a slight crease down in that corner and a bit of a dent near the hing on the bump strip, im almost sure that would pop bakc out if the bump strip was taken off and straightened

i havent been driving the 12v as ive got use of the 2.3 estate i have lol

the engine and exhaust are really sweet though, i plan to give it a quick clean up and sell it off with the ecu and other units etc.. would make a nice upgrade for someone :D

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Chris_Basel on Apr 17th, 2007, 10:40am
Good luck with the rebuild. You will most likely find it easier to just change the log book of the new car to show the 24v engine instead of trying to shell swap the old one, they might try issuing it with a Q plate otherwise.

I wish I'd read this before, since you mentioned you like green Scorpios. I'm going to be selling my green 2.0 Ultima very soon and it is rust free as it's spent the last few years of it's life in Spain as a summer holiday car.

engine, auto box, prop and exhaust all comming off tomorrow!!!

re the wheel. that isn't that bad and can be fixed. my spare (on the car somewhere now) was like that before i had them refur'd.

some thing to think about. :)

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on May 26th, 2007, 9:31pm
thats a bit of good news, ive managed to replace one of the alloys (the cougar 2 ones) found a brand new one on ebay £38!!!!. up untill today i though that that was the only wheel to be damaged (the one on the pic has some kerbing on the finished side). nasty shock when i saw that.

where did you have your wheel repaired? may have to send them a pic and ask for a quote

the info is here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1139518082).

they're up here in glasgow, though. :-/

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on May 27th, 2007, 7:13pm
well got the engine, autobox, exhaust, and all the front running gear off today, what a lump lol.

cant complain though, after a few hours of head scratching planning what to do for the best, i dropped the whole lot off in one go!!!

http://i12.tinypic.com/4v7azoo.jpg

http://i14.tinypic.com/66xldo0.jpg

the box looks as if it was fitted last week, it's so clean, as to is the rear of the engine, was uplifting to see that theres no problems there, ive got a a few leaks up the front though, nothing major and the worst is the powersteering!. will give it all a good clean before it goes back in and sort the small probs, oh and replace the off side engine mount that broke (split the rubber) :-X

as for the running gear up front, ive got new bearings, wishbone bushes, track rod ends and top mounts, all (ford parts) and a brand new set of EBC front disks ready to be fitted  ;D

only parts i have to buy now is a set of cats, ones blown and i had to cut through the other to get it off :-X,

engine mount rubbers (i'll replace both)

auto box filter and oil (may as well as it's off and clocked up 98,000 miles) although this is not essential as it works fine, just wines a little bit.

Title: Re: Time To Cry

Would be a great time to drop a 5spd and 2.0 diff in and go catless ;D ::)

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on May 27th, 2007, 8:09pm
i wish!!!, and would do if i had the bits to do it, and yeah ive got another cossie lump, completly stripped lol, broke a piston ring and havent been able to get hold of a set of new ones yet, so its all in my shed, waiting to be looked at again

Title: Re: Time To Cry
Post by Matt on May 28th, 2007, 5:36pm
well some of you may remember me asking about the cooling system on the cossie as mine had been bodged up and had a pipe blocked off, well sorted it all out today while the engine is out of the car, believe it or not, a 12v water pump had been fitted to it, and the pipe work bodged to make it work. not only that, silicone had been used for a gasket so the back of the rotor had been just touching the block, 3 of the fixing pins were also missing! good job ive got that spare cossie lump, it's water pump looks nice on my engine lol

few pics of the bodge

hey all, some more pics for you all to look at, and a bit of news on the rebuilt front,

apart from the interior the cossie is stripped, theres nothing left front or rear, an i mean nothing, ive removed all pipe work, screws and even those silly plsatic clips ford seem to have plastered all over it!!!

engine all cleaned up and ready to drop in the 12ver, that is once ive done the filter on the autobox, and i can get nice new tranny oil to, my local motor factor does the autobox stuff for £14 a gallon, bargain if you ask me lol.

well i'll stop talking and throw some piccys up :P

Crikey Matt, you could've stripped it down a bit more ::)

At the end of the day, it's only a shell but does seem a shame that it's going to be crushed, looked near mint apart from the dent.

How near are you to getting the new one assembled? Any idea when you'll be painting yet?

Aye Matt, nice one ;)

Guy's motah looked stunning on the pics he posted, have you bought it home yet?

Aubergine facelift on the RS 17's would look great :D

yes got her home!!

and it really is in top notch condition, there is only a tiny car park dink on the drivers door and it is tiny, and that is. not a sign of rust or bubbling paint

and your almost right there tiberius

but it will be silver and i happen to have a set of the rs7 diamond cut alloys on their way ;)

Oh nice...I'd love to see a set of them on one :)

You must really like silver, after seeing the photos I think I'm an aubergine fan ::)

Cuirass, Oyster or Roman Bronze would still look nice with those rims ;D ;)

if it wasn't for the fact ive already spend £160 on the moon dust sliver paint, primer and lacquer, id of prob of done it in the cossie blue or the a metallic gun metal like the sierra RS's,

as for the wheels, they are very hard to come by now, and ford no longer make them, hence the price has shot up on them. still its only money   :)

Crikey. Those look stunning :o

Dark emerald Micatallic or Anthracite with those rims please ::)

Have you thought what might be wrong with the engine yet?

...Or of course you could get it chrome plated...

I copper plated a nail once, in a jar using a 9v battery and a phial of copper sulphate :)

If it's possible to plate a 2" nail, surely it can't be much harder to plate a 15ft car :-/

All we'd need is a big enough jar and a hotwire to the national grid ::)

Darker ;)

Are those photoshopped? Look great.

I'm more for the sleeper look, something unassuming but with plenty of grunt...but if you like M3 style tailpipes then go for it, certainly different ;D

Twin oval s/s pipes, when you do mine please, one each side, de-catted ;)

Show us ya rims! ;D

no not photo shopped,

wasnt the exhaust i was looking at on the rear shot, it was the deepened rear bumper, like you id have an oval inwardly rolled to give you that bordered look :P

as for the wheels, you'll have to do with this, polished with auto glym and as you can see left in the sun  8) 8) 8) 8)

blingin'

;D

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by TiberiuS on Jul 14th, 2007, 6:50pm
Nah, not blingin', they look way too class for that ;D

Was thinking how good they'd look on the Capri, nothing suits old Fords like Ford rims, the aftermarkets look good but never the same...I like the RS rims on any Ford, those look stunning though..

What tyre profile are you putting on them? 255's would look perfect on the rears ;D

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by Matt on Jul 14th, 2007, 7:01pm
255 wouldnt go on  >:( wish they did though mite stop her spinning up in the wet  ;D

i'll be gracing them with these: Dunlop Sport FM901 in a 225/45/17 fitment ;)

the alloys are just one of a few cosmetic touches im doing!

have to agree though, the ford rims are class!

these came off an old sierra cosworth, but have seen them on pretty much all the sierra's escorts (look mint on the rs turbos) and even a mondeo!

never seen a socrp with them on ;D ;D ;D ;D

That's more like it, very chic ;D

I thought it was a facelift though or did those bits get sold?

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by Matt on Jul 30th, 2007, 6:18pm
it did have the face lift lights on it but guy removed them for his fathers car, ive reface-lifted it since that pic was taken using my cossies bits  ;D

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by TiberiuS on Aug 1st, 2007, 12:22am
I've still got a soft spot for the pre-facelift look ;)

Although on silver and some other colours, I like the facelift better :)

That car is a stunner Matt, I'm genuinely jealous.

I don't suppose you'd take a 4.0 Jag in P/X? :-/ ;)

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by Matt on Aug 1st, 2007, 6:45pm
i had thought about going the jag route after the scorp, but i must admit ive got a sof spot for mustangs to, and they are becoming more affordable now.

got no plans to see the old girl yet, shes taking to much money and time to sell off.

ive decided im going to keep it aubergine, polished it up with some Maguires and it was stunning. does have the odd bit that will need doing so will respray her at some point but keep the aubergine. may add another color metallic flake into it though just go make it that little bit extra special  :P

the alloys arnt the only styling upgrade though,

i'll treat it to the face lift front bumper off my silver cossie and there are a couple of nice touches ive done/will do to finish it off

heres 2 of them and a nice pic of the car before i did the lights

http://i19.tinypic.com/61mkccx.jpg

baby cossie badges ;D

http://i17.tinypic.com/6ar136h.jpg

You need to get some 'crystal black' side repeaters. Can't have those ugly orange blobs on a nice car like that  ;)

now thats a good idea  ;D

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by Matt on Aug 11th, 2007, 5:55pm
stripped the engine today, not an easy task with it in the car but i got there  ;D. one of the heads had been replaced not to long ago (offside) and it seems it was dont buy someone whos never done a head before because its now broken!!!. front journal and outer offside cam have a huge score in them, as does the next one down the line  >:(. head bolts have been tightened by god knows what, took me and my dad one a tommy bar to shift them and were not what you would call work shy blokes lol. head gasket has been glued to the block so getting that off was a game,  had to work round every hole so that nothing fell inside. still was nice to see that new chains and pullies had been fitted, and a new chain guide!.

other bits ive found doing this:

the wiring loom is shot, every connector has insulation missing

the bracket that hold the cables for the throttal and cruise control had a pin missing and the other was a tiny bit more then finger tight

EGR valve vaccume pipe has been made up of lots of different bits of other pipe.

dont know who mixed the coolant but i think they got the percentages mixed up, it was dark blue, almost like they had just used pure antifreeze!

So that was the rattle then, overtightened and scored the bearings?

:o Frightening stuff Matt!

Have you done all this strip down and rebuild work yourself at home?

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by Matt on Aug 12th, 2007, 7:47pm
do you think id let my cossie go to a garage!!!

ive done all the work my self so far, got pretty much all the kit to do these sort of things and can get round the bits i havent lol.

that spare cossie lump i bough a while back has been a god send now, its for 2 great cylinder heads, spent most of today re-gringing the valves, its come up lovely, just wish this head gasket kit would arrive, its holding me up now >:(

Title: Re: Time To Cry - Updated :)
Post by Matt on Aug 12th, 2007, 8:58pm
still got it, she been sold off in bits (parts etc...) or used for bits on the cossie, unless some one fancies buying it as a project car...  ::)

it was a nice car but did need a lot doing to it. if it want for guy selling the cossie then id be still using it....
