Title: New member in East Sussex
Post by Scorpio_Mike on Apr 14th, 2007, 3:40pm
Hi all,
Registered on the site yesterday and thought I'd introduce myself. Found the site really helpful with tips for choosing a Scorpio.
Just bought a 1996 Scorpio 2.3 16V Ultima Estate - in fact picked it up this morning. Wanted one for a while now to replace my 1993 Granada Scorpio 2.9i Estate which has served me well over the last 6 years. Sadly too much work needed on it to be worth doing. Been a fan of the oval badge for some 23 years now, my first Ford was an Escort XR3 which had a turbo kit bolted on to it - not for the feint hearted I can tell you ! Next was a Mk2 Granada 2.3 GL auto followed very quickly by a Capri 2.0 Ghia which I got from my brother. Kept that for about 6 months and then moved on to another Mk2 Granada - this time a 2.8 Ghia auto which I kept for just over a year when I happened to find what I consider the Holy Grail of Mk2 Granadas - a 2.8i Sport Estate with the Recaro seats, TRX alloys, sports suspension pack  and 5-speed manual gearbox. I had that for about 10 years and in all that time saw at most about another 10 of that model on the roads in either saloon or estate versions. Sadly it developed a rather bad rust problem and I think it ended up in the hands of a banger racer. Next up was a Sierra XR4i which I still have but needs some TLC to get on the road again. Then came the Granada Scorpio 2.9i auto estate which got traded in today against the Scorpio 2.3 Ultima estate. What a car for the money ! Even with 123k on the clock it drives beautifully and looks nowhere near 10 years old. Hopefully will keep it for a few years to come.

I don't guess it was a December 1982 Ghia in diamond white with blue interior by any chance? ::)

Welcome to the site ;)

Hi Bruce,

My Capri was a Mk2 in Jupiter red with tan interior and a black vinyl roof - reg no was UKP 38 S if I remember correctly. Not quite out of my boy racer phase at the time - stuck a spoiler on the tailgate and then had to change the gas struts ( expensive ) to keep it open !

My father used to have a Mk2 2.0 GL, two-tone brown (dark bronze) and cream with chestnut vinyl roof and smoked windows...ahh those were the days ::)

Reg no. SLO 999 R...no it's not a joke - he got pulled for doing 40 in a 30 once and even the plod was laughing ;D

Regards, Bruce ;).
