Hi there to all

First I want to excuse my un-attendance for the last weeks i was WAY-over to busy :( now it's all sorted and have more time. So I’m back on the forum.

Now the second part is more interesting. My madness about Scorpios and being implied in a Romanian Ford Club brought me the opportunity to make one of my Scorpios a star in a movie ;D .... ohhh well it will be a short kind of soap opera but there will be 2 main scenes implying mister Scorpio. I’ll keep you informed and of course I’ll share the movie.

As for the mister cossie he is suffering from a real bad rattle (and extended). I had been saving my money and after 4 months of hard work i managed to buy a full list of "to-change" - timing chains, worth of over 1000 euros. (now i need to earn more to pay the mechanic ;) )

erm, i did see a scorp used in a movie last year, it was on a cable channel......late at night......there was a lot of attention on a girl sliding around on the leather....

It's 4th day of dismantling the cossie. Found out one big rat nest between the heads under the manifolds / injection ramps. The wiring loom is very brittle and cracks. :-[ . I have found out a lot of vacuum hoses were blocked because the intake was glued with silicone instead of having a new gasket fitted ....thats how Romanian services work. Found also a few vacuum hoses that were barely hanging, so i had no VIS resonator working, and the list goes on. Today i hope i'll get to the chains / guides.

Hi there, a lot of news

We undid the oil pan, but we had to take the front cross member out (we call it bridge). So the sump was half blocked by plastic pieces from the timing guides. The oil pan was full with plastic chunks. I have cleaned until shine the intake butterfly's, idle valve, camshaft covers, water pump and the list goes on. I saw a very interesting thing. It looks like the oil in the engine has cooked itself into a carbon deposit. I bet that the same thing blocked the pensioners. My mechanic also talked with an electrician to repair the engine loom, i hope they fix it right because we all know how Scorpio electrics are.

Now to continue with the movie. The team that works on it managed to upload some sequences (a trailer) from the final version here http://www2.tvr.ro/lpc/povesti.php
The final version should be published this Saturday.

These is part of my timing guides that found their way into the oil pan. Also a lot of metallic wear an tear was formed as the chains were hitting the reaming metal parts of the tensioner blades. The oil pan in this picture was partially cleaned, and don't laugh but i have used a tooth brush for cleaning those inaccessible fins.

Bad news today.

My mechanic managed to take the distribution out. The damage done is awesome. Broken chain guides, slack in the chains. The oil pump is rounded......One camshaft lost it's timing by one cog. Camshaft sprockets are broken. The right hand one lost almost half of it's teeth. The tensioners were fouled with oil deposits.

I went to FMD and asked for the sprockets and they don't deliver them. So I'm going crazy. I have this topic in parts wanted. Please HELP my cossie get better. Read here also http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin4;action=display;num=1180531978

bad luck octavian, have you overlooked the probability of valve damage befor you go to far down the rout of new parts to repair this one, would surgest removeing the heads to check, I know its more expense, but not as bad as re building the chains ect only to find there is no compression. it all looks rather familier.

With all the damage done, before striping the engine it still run perfect, except the noise commeing from the chains.

Hi there, sometime has passed since the last news. In the mean time i have bit the bullet and ordered 2 sets of left side sprockets from a FMD. Somewhere on the following week they should arrive, and I'll see then if they will fit or can be adapted. Until then i have started refurbishing the engine loom, after i finally took it of the car i could see how extensive was the damage. The main cord that gos trough the heads and feed the injector has lost almost all isolation and injector wiring was touching each other. Also like is stated on the main site, the loom took extensive damage where it passes from the engine compartment trough the automatic transmission box. The protective isolations had melded over the box :o

Here is a sneak preview of the first 3 refurbished wires. The Scotch on the connectors just holds the numbering on them so I'll know what wire goes where. Anyway, I'm repairing it fully, so I'm changing the wires and adding extra heat protections and insulations.

Hi there

Finally good news. The engine is sorted. Yesterday i have took the car to another mechanic, in 4 hours it was ready to run again, smooth as silk. The problem was the timing. All four camshafts were misaligned and the engine wasn't at TDC. Now the engine runs like a dream, lots of power, it's like an warp core from star trek, it just goes fast or warps :o.

The ex-mechanic was a jerk, it took him 2 and a half months to "sort it out" and it run like a bag o spanner in a washing machine. I also found out that he broke the engine supports and being hydraulic, all the oil was poring out, on the back seat the leather was stabbed by different engine parts that he trowed inside @. Headlights are heavy misaligned and did not work, windshield washers where not working because the hoses where split, vacuum hoses on the engine where cracked, intake manifolds where not screw to the right torque, in the sense that 2 screws i took out with my bare hand...and the list continues.

Anyway, i'm glad that finally it is sorted out and works. :)

Now a question, how does you cossie engine sounds as mine seems a bit like runs on diesel, it has a tappet noise or something like that, it's not loud but it's heardable. Also with all the new timing chains, blades and tensioner, gives a half a second of "burrrp"

Hi there, the beast is finally fixed. The rattle and burrb sound was coming from 3 blocked hydraulic tappets. Dirt from the engine was dislodged and blocked them. Now they are clean and run like a dream. I need to do only a few things like fixing the AC and see why the rear right ABS sensor gives errors and repair a small point of rust on a wheel arch and it seems that my dream is coming (ohhh and those dashboard and switches bulbs converted to leds ;D). A full working cossie ;D

P.p.s. Octavian - I trust all your Scorpio woes are over / now sorted. For your future reference, their are at least a few good cheap scorpios available over here (that pop up for sale reasonably frequently) - so if ever experiencing more serious problems, reasonable examples can be picked up for less than 1000 Euros (e.g. 1997 onward, ~80,000 miles, 24v Ultimas - not a bad option to consider for a fully dead engine or gearbox, etc [plus interior or bodywork bits, and then you can strip and sell other bits?]. Likewise random bits seem to be available from various breaker type sources - e.g. second hand seats, etc. I think their is a reasonable reconditioned market in certain areas, and seperately some people seem to be able to get pretty cheap new after market consumable type parts (break discs, pads, etc), pretty cheaply - so do continue to consider the UK for sourcing parts and value, etc. with keeping your Scorpio alive ) .
