Title: New Ultima Owner.
Post by Seans_Dad on Apr 26th, 2008, 6:47pm
Hi to all.
I'll start by introducing myself. My name is Dan, I'm 37 years old and live in a peaceful village near Devizes in Wiltshire. I'm an HGV driver, driving an articulated lorry across the UK.
Today I bought my first Scorpio, a '97 Ultima 2.3 Auto Estate, from eBay for £450, a real bargain. What a lovely motor to drive! I picked it up from Weymouth in Dorset, about an hour and forty minute drive from home, and it was like driving in my living room! Now, I've owned THREE Jaguar XJ6's in the past, and I have to say that the ride in the Scorpio is almost as refined as this great marque. I would have bought another Jag, but now I'm also a dog owner it just wasn't practical enough, so an estate car was needed.
Overall, I'm VERY pleased with the Ultima, the only fault with it being the auto box hesitating between the change from 2nd to 3rd, but reading all the technical stuff on this site, it sounds like the MAF could do with cleaning, so this I will do (prob tomorrow) and hope that fixes it.
In the past, I have owned a '88 Granny Scorpio 2.0 Ghia manual h/back, which was OK but was past it's best, and I also had two MK2 Granada's, one was a 1980 2.8 Ghia auto, the other was a 1983 facelift 2.0 GL manual, and both were absolute belters! Loved them to bits, and as I was in my early 20's at the time, it was like owning a Jag to me.
The Jags I've owned, if anyone is interested, Were three XJ's, the last one was a '95 X300 4.0 in white, and the other two were both XJ40 Sovereigns, one a 4.0 and one a 3.2, both auto's. I'll probably have another one day, who knows, but right now, my focus is on getting to know this Ultima a bit better, and finding out all I can via this site and it's members.
Anyway, that's about it for me, I will look in regularly, and let you know how I get on with my gearbox issue.
Thanks for reading! :)

Dan.

Hi Dan and welcome :). I've done the same as you, only gone the other way...2.3 Ultima to 4.0 Sport. White X300's are a rare bird in the UK I believe, as are 4.0's getting to be. But they're both great cars, I'd have a dozen of each if I was rich enough ;D

Anyway, welcome to the site mate, hope you'll enjoy your Scorp and find some answers to your problems here :)

Regards, Bruce.

Welcome to the site Dan, excellent choice of car  ;D

Cleaning the MAF is the first thing to do if all is not well with autobox changing, hope that sorts it.

Got any pics ?

Hi Geoff, no pics yet, only got back from Weymouth this afternoon with it, and I'd like to clean it up a bit before I post any pics. :)

Bruce, correct, the 4.0 X300 in white  are like rocking horse poo, mine was an ex S. Wales police patrol car with nearly 200k miles on it, but still drove like a dream.
Do you own a Jag currently then? I wonder if you have visited the forum at www.jaguar-world.com? I am a well established member there and the boys are very helpful. They are doing the annual London to Brighton run tomorrow along with the JEC, I did it last year in my X300, what a fab day, over 300 Jags from all ages. (I hope it's OK to post a link to another site here, if not, I'll remove it and consider my wrist slapped!!)
Cheers ;D

Dan.

He is back in the fold ... must have deleted himself somehow !  Easily done if you try to amend your profile... I know more than one person who has done it !  Now where is that list of them ?????????

Thanks everyone ;D

Well I washed it down on Sunday, but before I had a chance to get the camera out, it chucked it down with rain..... >:(

Here's the eBay link for the car, with pics and info. Hope you like ;)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110243769277&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=001

Click on the SECOND link at the bottom of the listing and there are more pics and info from the seller before the guy who I bought it from. :)

Nice car Seans Dad.... It is funny though that the guy you bought it from went to all the trouble of blanking out the reg number on his pictures..... and then puts a link up to photographs with the number still showing!!
