Delighted :D ;D to report that my Estate has passed its' MOT having needed just a pair of steering gaiters and with an 'Advisory ' for an area of welding needed on the r/n/s/ near the suspension mount. A 'classic' spot on these cars according to an article on the site.

I'd get that welding done soon, they do seem to "flex" at that point and just make it worse

Hi Stuart, Thanks for that. I've arranged to get it done ASAP and hopefully before Harewood. Im told it is a 'Saturday morning 'Cash' job' and hopefully I will be present when it is done as the the garage is local and friendly. :D The alternative would be a long trip North and over the Border !! :D ;D. Mine should be mid mot right now I hope :)

If its the same part needing welding as the ones i've seen and done its quite a job, needing the rear sub frame dropped to get into it, but you may have caught it early enough ;)

You're correct. They have said they will need to drop the subframe to do the job and looking at the pictures in the article on the site re estate corrosion it is in the 'classic' location. Good luck with yours. Mike.

I don't think this corrosion problem is exclusive to the estate, as my facelift saloon seems to have some corrosion in the same place.....on the N/S/R chassis rail, just behind the isolator bush ::)
