Title: Competition
Post by peteHull on Jul 20th, 2008, 11:07pm
Hi all, unfortunateley I will soon be selling my beloved scorpio, I am finding it more difficult keeping up to date with the tinkering due to health problems so I think it is time for a change.

It has been a very hard task to find something that I can compare to the Scorpio, in fact it is in my opinion impossible.  I have found something though but the Scorpio has lots of Class and it is the Class that is lacking in other marques, yes, it will be sadly missed.

I won't say what I have finished up with, I will leave it as a little fun competition for anyone to have a guess at.
Then when I get my latest car home I will post some pics to reveal my choice.

I have also posted in cars for sale and parts for sale

Cheers everyone.....
go on have a go at          GUESS THE CAR

Pete

6 up on a Mazda, sounds good to me, Jap though, I remember when I fell in love with the Wankel (Pronounced Vankel)  ;D engine they used to fit, they ended up being problematic though and I think they used to fit a triumph Stag engine as a replacement, although my recolections are a bit foggy. At that time i owned a Wartburg... a 3 cylnder 2 stroke engined GDR built car imported into this country and quite common at the time, I had this car for 13 years good old German engineering, and this was also the first car through the Berlin wall in 1989.  It had the same "Otto" engine as the Trabby (Trabant)

Ah ! The Wartburg Knight ! Did you have the saloon or the 'Tourist' estate model ? Think that is what it was called.

I recall my sister worked at the Mazda importers based in Tunbridge Wells many years ago - they were the UK Wartburg agents and she gave me loads of promotional models and stuff - wish I'd kept them, probably quite rare now.

Staff could have got a free Wartburg company car at the time - or pay about a pound a week for a Mazda 626 or 2 quid for an RX3. Nobody took the free Wartburg...but the sales rep with the lowest sales figures for the month had to drive one.  ;D

I remember finding a Wartburg in a scrapyard in the '80's and with a mate we stuck a battery on it for a laugh and got it running - made a hell off a racket as it had no exhaust ! The owner chucked us out. :-[

I had the saloon at first which went quite rusty after a while, when I worked in a scrapyard we got the tourist estate in.   I rebuilt the estate from the bits of the saloon (which was actually newer) and then gave the boss the shell.  (a good bargain).

We had PJR Motors (Mazda) where I first saw the rotary,  Then it stopped supplying parts so I had o go all the way to Corby for bits.... didn't cost a lot though  ;)

EEEE them were the days.... ;D

Back View      http://www.box.net/shared/twnpbits8w

As you can see it is something special and I will post some more details soon.....

Enjoy the pictures and excuse the skips but it is taken at the school where I work.

Thanks to everyone for taking part, as you will realise, I originally asked the question as many others have, What can I get to replace the Scorpio?  Well, I think I have answered it (for myself at least) however to do that it is costing a far greater amount of money and if I hadn't been able to get it for the price I did I would no doubt still be asking that question.

I am still of the opinion that the scorpio and all of it's predessesors are of very high technological standards and will allways love them, I just wish I had the facilities to keep both cars.  In the meantime I will just have to put up with running this beast, I priced up the spec for this car and to buy it new today would cost me £62000.

Nowthen, anyone guessing the price I paid?

The car has the full spec including reactive braking,  ???when aproaching stopped traffic or going down hill etc the car brakes for you so as to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, or so I understand it. it has a 6 speed steptronic auto/manual gearbox with sport, manual and comfort modes which can be accessed from the paddle or from switches on the steering wheel.

It has HID reactive headlights which go round the corner as you turn, it monitors tyre inflation etc etc

Very nice too - yes it matches what a 2003 Scorpio would have been, except the voice control would only have recognised a Brummie accent (anyone remember Clarkson with the S Class Merc LOL)

Only worth 20% after 5 years - that's almost as much as the Scorpio depreciated!!

You got a heck of a lot of car for the money - as long as nothing goes wrong (and it's a BMW and so it shouldn't) then you have a very nice ride.

Hello Pete. I'm not the world's biggest Beemer fan but kudos to you, that's a well kitted car, good step or two above the average chav's 3 Series :)

My old girl's probably going this year, it's been a great car but Im getting the upgrade bug again while the prices are good...it's 13 years old next month after all. Been 2 years since I sold the Scorp at Christmas, time flies...feels like yesterday and I still miss it in a way :'(

Scorp is still a nice car for the money, you need to spend some serious lolly to better it, I know that from when I was looking at cars to replace mine. There's a really nice 2002 (old gen) 740i in black for sale locally, gotta say I'm tempted :P

All the best mate :)

Regards, Bruce.
