Title: Scorp survives again
Post by pat on Dec 17th, 2008, 8:27pm
Well, it looks as though the Scorp is going to outlive its intended replacement. I knew it was a mistake to crow about trouble - free motoring with the Mondeo. It has developed a problem with the immobiliser which looks as though it is going to be terminal i.e. too expensive to fix. So - end of this month, the Scorp gets its tax renewed again! It still misses and snatches but at least it goes. DRAT, I've done it again.... :-X

Is it dry joints in the immobiliser thats the problem with the mondeo, cuts out without warning and you dont get the problem every day.

Yes, it could well be a dry joint. The problem is that periodically the light flashes rapidly and the fuel pump doesn't kick in. Then all of a sudden it's ok and car runs fine. Tried it today:- 3 times out of 1st 4 attempts it worked. Then it took 6 further attempts before it worked again. Electrician reckons he's remade the joints but I've had the box apart and it doesn't look like it to me.

Time to get the iron out, :o its a simple job, if I can do it anybody can. But look at each joint with a magnifing glass, unless you have very good sight, as they can look ok untill you look very closely.

I already have but they looked ok to me - even WITH a magnifying glass. I'd consider buying a new box(even at £150 :'() if it was guaranteed to cure it but apparently you then have to have it programmed by Ford and by the time it's finished it would be costing more than the car's worth. And it might still be no different, like the Scorpio's missing problem.
A plague on Ford electronics. >:(
