Hi all
my car was reversed into by a person
reversing off their drive,i had pulled in
to drop a friend off,who lived opposite
so it was a low speed contact on the rear
door only,exchanged ins details,thought
they would contact me and arrange to sort
out repair themselves,anyway when they
contacted later the details had been sent to
their ins comp,who in turn arranged for me to
have an estimate done, this is a rip off the estimate
as come back at £1404.37 yes thats right they said
one thousand four hundred and four pounds 37pence
for one offside rear door primed and painted to match,
labour costs in this figure were £673.00. to take off
a door and refit a new one, the ins company have asked
if i will take it to another garage,they supplied the first
so what price or what kind of work can i expect from
this one.

where are you situated REN My imediate reaction would be to as ins co if icould do worw myself with s/hand (matched) parts .Unless of course sill or floor has been creased

Your situation is typical,there is no way on earth that any decent firm could possibly justify that silly money >:(.They don't particularly want the job of course,but if someone were daft enough to pay it,they would take it !
There is a green estate here,you could have the complete door for £25,then find a proper little painter,unless it happens to be green !

asked the Q re do repair myself with used parts,
was offered a figure,i said give us a cpl days to cost
price,got back to them today and they have upped
the first offer by £70.00 so have accepted.

sorry dont think you are close enough to me, i believe you down south,,i'm up north,and a blue door would be prefered.

I've got this car up for sale at £750.00 and i've now been offered more than that to fit another door,so can now look for a replacement,whilst still driving this around, and who knows how much i could be offered on a PX,if its only a quid, i would still be in pocket.

You can get a second hand door (probably in the same colour) for peanuts. So it may be worth asking the guy what his insurance excess is. It could be quite high.....if so, then he may be better off giving you cash ;)
