Title: I is now an owner!!! (Thanks Pinto)
Post by Boatdrinks on Jul 22nd, 2009, 11:27pm
Well, courtesy of Pinto (what a nice bloke!), I am now the proud owner of the Ghia X. The Pot and I had an immediate and lengthy 'getting to know you' session driving back from East Sussex over the bridge and to the mountains of South Wales.

And what an impressive drive it was...cruise control set to an actual 75mph (indicated 83mph), and the Potty transported me extremely comfortably, and returned 33.1mpg!

VERY impressed by the car, both in general and specifically. I'm glad that I bought from here, and bought from a very good owner, as opposed to taking a punt on Ebay. A little part of me is already wondering just how good a full spec Cossie must be, but if I do end up with one it will be 'as well as' as opposed to 'instead of'...I'm not much of a one for selling cars, I hoard...so Potty and I are likely to be together for a while!

Expect a multitude of posts from me on the advice needed board over the next few weeks - how do you open the bonnet etc (I'm no mechanic!)...and I have to try and fit a CD Multichanger! Happily, no issues that need immediate attention (again, pleased I bought from a good owner), with the exception of some new brake pads tomorrow as the N/S/R went down to metal on the way home.

So, once again many thanks to Pinto (keep looking for that other key & fob mate!;)), and look forward becoming a more active forum member now that I actually have one of the blasted cars!!!!

Cheers,

Boaty

Boatdrinks.
Pleased you've taken the plunge, poor old Pinto has been messed about from pillar to post over that car ! it seems to have gone to a good home !. I seem to remember the heatshield was missing from the exhaust manifold,a three piece affair with a dozen or more bolts holding it all together, don't know whether it has much affect other than to hide the rusty manifold  :)
                                Good luck and happy Scorpin

Good to see she eased you home ;D

I'll find (and remove) the rest of the bits and post them as promised - will need you to PM me a snail mail address :)

I removed the heat shield when i replaced the cracked exhaust manifold when i bought her - as the only reason i could see for the heatshield was to overheat the cast manifold and make it crack again, it stayed off.... (anyone who knows about performance motors would never wrap a cast manifold ::) )

Surprised about the rear brakes, although they were going to be next on the replacement list if i'd kept her - you sure you didnt drive home with the handbrake on ??  :P

Must admit tho - dont think she could have found a better home than she has - look forwards to many years of happy motoring mate ;)

you sure you didnt drive home with the handbrake on ??   :o :o :o :o :o ;D ;D

Brakes sorted - she now stops beautifully and efficiently, without it sounding like the anvil chorus! And only cost £30, so happy days! T'was a d**ned sight cheaper than filling the tank this evening... ;)

Thought I'd post a (properly sized I hope!!!) pic of her in her new envoiroment....she's fitting in well, and learning Welsh, though it sounds a bit weird with a Sussex accent!;) No worse than my Brummie one mind...

I just missed a set on Ebay, forgot when they were ending...they went for £35...not too far away either. I presume I can just bang 16" on without having to fiddle with anything???

Only downer with the 16's are the tyre prices lol :)

All 4 on the cossie are looking a bit thin and i'd like to keep decent brands on there.... going to be painful  :(

i had the same wheels and changed them to 12spokes... spot the difference...

a set of new Toyo Proxes tyres set me back around 400£ tough...

Oh, it is a BIG improvement, isn't it? I could easily be tempted if a decent set came up with tyres...

Sure is, only 30 miles away! :) BTW, as an aside, covers for the headlamp washer thingy...are they easily put on/off? Would I be able to get one off a breaker? Thanks for all the help Guys...

Headlamp washer covers!  }{

Hens teeth and rocking horse poo spring to mind !

You might be lucky but don't be surprised if they are not easily found.

Ah...ok!  Is it the same story with a remote locking fob?

Nice car and I can confirm that Pinto is indeed a nice bloke - he bought my 24v off me :-) - how's it doing btw - progress report please!

Also for Pinto - just put a full set of Kuhmo KU31's on my 24v - paid £290 fully fitted - impressed with them so far - better than the Pirelli P6000's stock tyres certainly.

Remote key fobs are ten a penny compared to headlight washer covers ;D ;D.  I have been looking for 4 years for a n/s late facelift cover, may be near to getting one now ::).
