Title: New Autobox
Post by PJDavis on Nov 3rd, 2012, 8:01pm
'Movvy' got a re-built Autobox fitted today.   Dave 'The Old Barefooter' (Dave 2302) Stuck the Re-Built Autobox in today single-handed.   I passed Dave a used gearbox a few months ago, and he strips it out and renews all the bits inside, the converter is re-conditioned, and he gives the 'box a good tidy-up all-round.   Took the car round to his today, (we live in the same Highland Region, and it took me two and a half hours to get to his) and he whipped the old 'box out and fitted the new 'box single-handed!   This guy lifts an Autobox with the converter in place on his own!
The Cat-Converter had to come off for ease of fitting, but I had been warned this may be the case, so a new Cat-Converter was put in place and then attached to the Stainless-Steel system.   There was a good bit of fabrication of brackets and such-like, and all done in a few hours.
Dave also code-read the car throughout, and took the car for an extensive road-test after the event.
Dave's a top bloke, really knowledgeable and very clever with his hands, and as strong as a bloody Ox!
The car drives fantastic now, just as it would have done when new, I thought my Autobox was doing ok, but compared to this new 'box is like chalk and cheese!
Don't ask how much it cost me, that doesn't mean I feel the work was expensive, it means that every Autobox replacement would be different and so incur different costs, but for my car it was easily worth it and Dave,s work is absolutely top-notch.   Another rarity I find these days, is someone that when he says he's going to do something, he does it and doesn't p**s you about, Dave's that man!

Top-Job Dave, a pleasure to watch you work, and I'm really happy with the result.

Peter

Thanks Peter,

I'm really glad you're happy with the work carried out and the way your car now drives.

FWIW Peters car is one of the nicest Scorpios I've had the pleasure of working on, and apart from welding some captive nuts onto the new pattern CAT and cutting off and refitting the bracket, so it was in the right place, the job went really well, and the car drove beautifully afterwards.

I always find, (not just on Scorpios but all cars), that the pattern CATS bracketry never fits, I don't know why they bother welding them on  ;D
Would be better to cable tie the bracket to the cat and let us weld them on ourselves at the time of fitting ;)

Likewise Peter it is a pleasure to do work for someone like yourself, who arrives when they say they will, pays promptly, and appreciates the amount of work that goes into a job.

Wishing you many more miles in the Scorpio,

Regards Dave
