Title: Y reg in for MOT today
Post by amigafan2003 on Nov 30th, 2012, 12:45pm
Wish me luck!

Think it might need a patch welding on the rear of the drivers side sill and one washer jet blocked this week (passenger) - cleaning it with a pin didn't make a difference so I've split the drivers side jet so one stream does one side and the other stream the other side - wonder if it will suffice?   ;D

Ok, failed with:-

Rear of both sills need welding.
Rear chassis rail

and

wait for it

Offside ball joint (i.e. wishbone).

Fully expecting a call tomorrow from them saying "erm, we can't get the wishbone".

Oh well, onwards and upwards.  Guy at work asked if I was going to scrap it.  He doesn't understand obviously  :D

Unlucky, get it undersealed after welding.
Amazed by how many people say after an MOT failure. Scrap it.  ???
Wishbones still available in Germany.

Good luck

I have a wishbone that would pass an MOT.   In fact it did about six weeks before I replaced them both.   Although the car was a lot better for the wishbones being renewed.   But I think that was because of the bushes rather than the ball-joint.   Both ball-joints were ok.   I've still to experiment removing the ball-joint and looking for a replacement, I'll only need one for that.   Anyways, it's there for price of postage if you want it, no guarantees, you could always put your bushes on my good ball-joint.

He's found one for the bargain price of £75 (and yes - it is a Scorpio one and not a Granada one).

Welding being done today, wishbone fitted Monday (I'd have done it myself but it's pretty nippy out there - really must get it re-mot'd in the summer!).

Yay - all done.

Chassis rail welded
Both sills wellded (from B pillar to rear - quite a lot of welding)
OSF wishbone supplied and fitted
Under floorpan rigid brake lines showing signs of corrosion - cleaned and greased

£370 all in inc MOT fee - not to bad - was expecting worse!

I'm going to get two new sills put on it in the summer.

Got the old wishbone back to I can play with the ball joint :-)

Well Done.   I did exactly what you say you should and changed my MOT to July by shorting it by six months about two years ago.   Best thing I did.   You should get your sills fitted and then take it back to the same garage in July for a re-test and get your 12 months from then.

Yeah - that's exactly what I'm going to do.  Meant to do it this summer but had to sort out a wiring issue on the Westfield instead.

Smiled when I saw the MOT mileage reading - 94500 in 2010, 98500 in 2011 and 100800 just now - only 2300 miles in a year - the electric bike is working wonders :-)
