Title: Another MOT failure, and she had to go ... Post by ADroste on Aug 12th, 2013, 2:19pm After 100.000 miles and exactly ten years ownership my beloved April 1998 2.3 Ghia Auto Saloon failed German TUEV (MOT) with waving flags :'( . Too much rust. Especially rear frame was corroded too much for repair, which according result sheet, if ever, only may be welded by a Ford-certified garage. http://thumbs.picr.de/15479233eg.jpg (http://show.picr.de/15479233eg.jpg.html) http://thumbs.picr.de/15479234ya.jpg (http://show.picr.de/15479234ya.jpg.html) http://thumbs.picr.de/15479235ng.jpg (http://show.picr.de/15479235ng.jpg.html) http://thumbs.picr.de/15479236dr.jpg (http://show.picr.de/15479236dr.jpg.html) Too much investments would have been necessary, and there is no market in Germany for such a car. So I gave it to a scrapyard for a tenner. It is likely that it will be shipped to Africa or eastern Europe. The car was fully equipped with all gadgets including "Global Closing Mod Kit" (older forum members may remember). Even self dimming mirror still worked perfectly. It took me more than two months to do the decission to give it away. I have no space to strip it and sell as spare parts. So she had to go ... Sad Armin P.S. : I replaced her with the only legitimate successor of the Scorpio '95 (in my eyes): a Jaguar S-type (2.7 silver Auto Diesel) of April 2008 (again one of the last of its family.) |

It is a bit of a gut wrencher when you have these cars for a long time. The rear view mirror would have been a good save though :) Happy motoring with your replacement. Cheers Lee |

Title: Re: Another MOT failure, and she had to go ... Post by Scorpio on Aug 12th, 2013, 4:52pm Wow, a tenner. The half wood steering wheel is worth at least five times that alone. Shame TUEV won't let any qualified welder repair it. The scrap metal price must be a couple of hundred pound as well. Good luck with your new Jag. Adam |
