Title: Jaguar XJ6
Post by PJDavis on Jun 19th, 2014, 9:36pm
For those that helped, and those that showed an interest.   My XJ6 sailed through it's MOT today.   I spent a lot of money on this worthwhile car.   It's now paid me back!   I was lead the wrong-way by a supposed local Jaguar specialist who informed me very-strongly that the problem was not the lambda-sensors but the lack of compression on a cylinder.   I spent a lot of money taking the cylinder-head off, and refurbing all with genuine Jaguar parts.   It turned out it WAS just one of the lambda sensors, so I replaced both.   Course what with the head-job now as well, the car is as clean as clean can be emissions wise.   I bought an 'Elm327' to discover that the fuel-trim was miles out, and when I switched the lambdas over, the fuel trim changed to the other bank of cylinders, proof I needed!

I'm not perturbed about the money I spent doing the head, it is money-in-the-bank, and piece of mind knowing the head and block are in perfect condition.   But I'll be reluctant to ask advise again from so-called experts!

Glad to hear you have sorted the problems out and such a nice car now.

Nice looking car, lovely colour too !

Since we are talking about Jag's - it was only yesterday I saw a K-reg XJ6 on the road - remarkable because you rarely see them these days. It appeared to be in exceptionally good condition and being driven by a rather small lady of oriental origin.

Keep your eyes open for a mass influx of Chinese XJ6's  :o the small Oriental lady may have been an evaluation scout  ;D

It's a great car, loads of power for such an old design of engine, does me fine.   Its not as comfortable as the Scorpio, less leg-room front and rear, and the seats are definitely not as comfy!   It's a real petrol-head drivers car though, handles really well and is very predictable powering out of corners.   The only option extra this one has is the rare LSD.   Thanks for the kind comments, there is nothing like leaving the testing-station with a ticket, especially when you know the car has earned it!

Now to get the Scorpio prepared for July 15th when it goes for its MOT.   :D

Well done, it looks like a very smart motor indeed. I drive the later but similar shaped XJ 8 as one of the works cars, glides along and loves hoovering up those motorway miles the only downside is legroom...for all.
I did see a nice XJ 6 convertible the other day in that superb red colour that I have nicknamed toffee apple red...it must have been a colour specific to that period as I have only ever seen it on cars from the 70s.
