Scorpio Radio Cassette 9/95 on
As a result of the Audio Program, Ford revised their
entire range of entertainment equipment and the new range had improved
ergonomics, security and compatibility. (See New Range)
Because the radio unit and the wiring had changed, so did
the connectors. These are the C1103a, b & c.
Here is the C1103b:
and the C1103C:
However, the Radio Interface Module (RIM) and the Remote
Control Switch remained unchanged, and so did their wiring, connectors and
codes.
Below is a view of the connections behind the drivers
lower fascia - unchanged from the previous version - on the panel below the
steering column. It is easily removed by removing the visible screws and
carefully disconnecting the diagnostic multiplug. It is not necessary to detach
the bonnet release cable.
The RIM is the unit labelled as A101 and connector C529,
which I show below.
It just remains to show the Remote Control Switch (RCS)
connector C552 beneath the steering column shroud:
Now, since we know the connectors on the back of the
radio, the location of the RIM and the connectors on the units, we can begin to
understand the installation.
The RIM receives power through a 5A fuse No 8 in the
Central Junction box to Pin 10 on C529. Remaining connections are shown in the
following table.

You'll note that there is no difference in the detail of
the internal connections for the Remote Control Switch (RCS). If you need
to connect a different head unit it may be possible to make up your own
connections for it.
Now we see how much simpler the connections are now that
the appropriate amplifier is built into the radio unit.
Premium Sound CD/Amplifier
Now that the equipment is standardised, the
addition of a CD changer has no effect on the other wiring. However, a new
connector is needed for the changer unit. This is the C1103d.
These are the connections. There are minor
differences and in 04/98 some changes were made in the pin numbers on C1103a.
The connection between the Radio and the CD controller are by a simple
connection with multi-core cable, C1103d at the Radio and the multiplug C1108.
There is no explanation of the uses of the wires, but two wires are screened
which would indicate that they carry signals, and one other carries an in-line
fuse.

Now that these details are known it should be much easier
for owners to fit their own head units.
Good luck with your installation.
