If the model of an ordered Scorpio used steels, there was of course a selection of alloy wheel options. At the time of its introduction, Ford offered a choice of 7 different alloy wheels. The sizes and tyre fitments are shown below. If you are looking at fitted new tyres or after market alloy wheels then here is a useful Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that can calculate equivalent sizes and profiles.

6.5J 16” E40 205/55  225/50
4-Spoke ‘Turbo'
6.5J 16” E40 205/55  225/50
4X2-Spoke ‘Sportive’
6.5J 16” E40 205/55  225/50
7J 15” E38 195/65  205/60  215/60
7.5J 17” E38 225/45  235/40
7-Spoke ‘Soft-Effect'
7J 15” E38 195/65  205/60  205/65  215/60
7.5J 17” E38 215/50  225/45  235/40  235/45
7-Spoke ‘Chrome-Effect’
7J 15” E38 195/65  205/60  205/65  215/60
7.5J 17” E38 215/50  225/45  235/40  235/45

Of course you can always adopt the extreme approach with 17" or even 18" wheel and tyre combinations!

Remember that the larger the diameter of the tyre the lower its profile, and the cost of the tyres may become prohibitive, especially at the more exotic fitments like the 235/40 17”. Rated at ZR for the Cosworth 24V, these tyres would begin at £200 each.
